I have a little project that needs some packing tape
In fact It needs many, many yards of packing tape
So I open up the drawer where I keep my packing tape
I see rubber bands and plastic bags, but there’s no packing tape

I open a second drawer . . . no packing tape
I open up a third drawer . . . no packing tape
I have no more drawers, I have no packing tape
Then I look inside a cabinet: there’s my packing tape!
Tape . . . Tape . . . Tape . . . Tape . . .

I can’t find the demarcating line on the roll
The line I need to find so I can peel a strip of tape
I really, really, really, really, really need this tape
But I can’t find the demarcating line on the roll

I hold up my packing tape close to a lamp
I hold the packing tape quite close to a lamp
Now I can see the line when it’s close to a lamp
A very faint line when I hold it by a lamp
Tape . . . Tape . . . Tape . . . Tape . . .

I wedge my thumbnail beneath the line that I can see
I pull it back, a strip of tape starts to come free
But then the strip of tape starts to split and divide
Then it sticks to itself after splitting and dividing

I try to pry the rest of the strip from the roll
But I just create more torn strips on the roll
Torn strips sticking to my hand or to the roll
Useless strips stuck to my hand and to the roll
Tape . . . Tape . . . Tape . . . Tape . . .
